Every day, I get questions about how I support women in starting successful Virtual Assistant (VA) businesses, just like I did eight years ago. To give you a glimpse into the journey, I recently interviewed Kaley, a student of my “A-Z VA Online Certification Program,” who has gone on to create a thriving business of her own. Here’s her inspiring story.

WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO START YOUR OWN VA BUSINESS?

Kaley: “I was deeply unhappy in my job—my boss was verbally abusive, and I was constantly worried about my financial security. As a single mom struggling to make ends meet, I knew I had to make a change but didn’t know where to begin. After following Melissa on social media, I decided to take a chance on starting my own VA business. I thought, ‘What do I have to lose?’”

WHAT WERE YOUR BIGGEST FEARS BEFORE STARTING?

Kaley: “As a single mom with two kids, I was juggling school drop-offs, a full workday, and evenings filled with family responsibilities. Finding time to start a business seemed impossible, and I had no idea how to get started. Plus, I worried that I wouldn’t be able to make enough money to replace my job eventually.”
